Nurses Aid in Treatment for Alcohol

Although most patients visit a rehab center with the hopes of overcoming their addiction to alcohol or drugs, some can become frustrated with just how difficult a struggle the treatment process is. Unfortunately, medical science has yet to provide us with a solution that will cure all addicts. Addiction treatment is still in many ways a very personal journey for those who are looking to kick the habit and get their life back on solid ground.

Luckily, we are always learning more and more about what methods have a higher rate of success than others, allowing treatment professionals to take approaches with new patients that have worked for numerous previous patients who have been through alcohol and drug rehab. New studies are constantly being published, offering new ideas and insights.

One recent study has suggested that those who are given the opportunity to have on-one-one sessions with a nurse specializing in alcohol treatment can overcome their dependency more quickly. The study was performed by a group from the University of Liverpool and covered two groups of alcoholics who were looking to shake their dependency. The control group started off with a meeting with a specialized nurse and then had another session to follow up half a year later. The other group had regular motivational sessions with a nurse as an addiction program.

The results were fairly striking comparing the differences between the two groups. Within the control group, not a single person managed to quit drinking. Of the group receiving treatment from a nurse, 40% had ceased their drinking. While that’s not a majority of the group, it is impressively high compared to the 0% of the control group. It’s even more impressive when you see that 77% said their dependence on alcohol was reduced.

Alcohol and drug rehabilitation is a process that requires significant time and effort. However, results like these show that it is a battle that can be won, particularly when you’re receiving motivation from trained professionals. Honest feedback and advice shows the person struggling with dependency that it isn’t a fight that needs to be handled alone.

What is an Addiction Treatment Program?

An Addiction Treatment Program is a series of treatment steps that helps a patient get rid of an addiction. There are many places that claim to have these programs in place. But it should be noted that an addiction places a person life in danger; therefore the treatment should be administered by people who are qualified to do it.
Places like Cirque Lodge have comprehensive programs in place to deal with various types of addictions. This is not something you will find at other Alcohol Rehabs or Drug Addiction treatment centers. A proper addiction treatment program will focus on the mind and the body.
This is because addictions have a very strong mental impact. Often, it is the mental addiction that keeps someone at drug or alcohol use rather than an absolute need by the body. Recognizing this and dealing with this is very important. Approaching the problem this way will also help the patient deal with the rehabilitation process better. Good addiction treatment programs have a lot of involvement from the family as well.
This is because of two reasons:
1. The family situation may be the cause of the addiction
2. The family is the main support group during and after the rehabilitation process.
Due to both these reasons, families are involved in the rehab process and are often given counseling and therapy to help them help their loved ones. Family interaction and participation in addiction treatment is very important, as it can prevent a person returning to their addictions.
