This procedure is more effective than any other procedure since it offers fewer risks and faster recovery.¹ In most cases it is done laparoscopically, using general anesthesia. It takes no more than 60 minutes for the procedure to be completed. The lap band cost can run from $15,000-$18,000, depending on patient’s medical history. There are payment options from insurance, financing and payment plans. The lap band procedure is covered by most PPO insurances. For example with Blue Cross if you meet your insurance plan’s criteria for bariatric coverage, blue cross lap band procedures will most likely be covered.

Even though this procedure has become a success, there are also risks that patients need be aware of. Some of these lap band complications can be prevented by the patient. One of the main complications can be Productive Burping also known as PBing. “The patient should consider eating less, eating more slowly and chewing their food more thoroughly. Occasionally, the narrow passage into the larger, lower part of the stomach might also become blocked by a large portion of unchewed or unsuitable food.”²
