5 tips for going whole food plant-based

Article by Wesley Virgin

A whole-food plant-based diet, (or WFPB diet for short) excludes all animal products, including meat, poultry, fish, eggs, dairy products, and honey. More than that, though, this way of eating focuses on consuming foods as close to their natural state as possible.

For example, baked potatoes are considered a whole food, while French fries (which have been deep-fried in processed oil) are not. WFPB diets are excellent for promoting good health, as they are naturally high in fiber, antioxidants, and phytochemicals.

There are many benefits to following a WFPB diet, including weight loss, improved heart health, and reduced risk of developing chronic diseases such as cancer. If you’re thinking of making the switch to a WFPB diet, here are five tips to help you make the transition:

Tip #1. Educate yourself

Before making any major dietary changes, it’s important to do your research and educate yourself about the options available. There is a lot of misinformation out there about veganism and plant-based diets, so it’s important to seek out reliable sources of information.

Tip #2.  Start slow

If you’re used to eating a standard American diet, switching to a WFPB diet can be a big change. It’s important to take things slowly and make changes gradually. Start by incorporating more plant-based meals into your diet and reducing your intake of animal products.

Tip #3. Experiment with different foods

One of the best things about a WFPB diet is that there are so many delicious and nutritious foods to choose from. Experiment with different fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and plant-based proteins to find meals that you enjoy.

Tip #4. Find a support system

Making any major dietary change can be difficult, so join some like-minded groups on social media for advice and support.

Tip #5.  Find some easy, go-to recipes

Whole food recipes don’t have to be complicated to be delicious! If you’re spending hours in the kitchen, you risk getting fed up with the process. Rather, focus on finding two or three simple meals you love and that you can whip up in a hurry.
