Fungal infections are usually confused for different skin conditions and are also often misdiagnosed and while it is very easy to treat if it is attended to quickly and properly, if not handled well can be troublesome and could persist for a long long time. So the first step is to be aware of all the symptoms so that you can identify it properly and start treating it quickly.

There are various types of fungal based infections and the symptoms are different from one to another. Typically some of these are scaly and will cause some form of discoloration and/or a bit of redness to the skin. Despite the seriousness or the stage that the infection is in, there are warning signs that you can keep a look out for.

If you are feeling itchy and there are somewhat painful blisters appearing in the groin, coming in a ring like a red rash, you are most probably suffering from the famous and jock itch.Itchy and scaly skin between your toes on the other hand is a clear indication of Athlete’s foot. You may also find peeling and cracking of the affected skin areas, and mild soreness. This also makes the area very susceptible to forms of bacterial infection. While some dullness and the thickening of the nails could be a sign of nail ringworm. The infected portion may be crumbly and seem to separate from the rest of the nail.

Some antibiotic medications used to treat other illness also end up kill off the healthy bacteria that normally controls fungi and prevents it from coming so that could be one of the causes. The decrease in healthy bacteria leads to unchecked growth and will ultimately result in fungal infections.

So now that you know how to identify fungal infections you can either nip it in the bud early or start treatment as soon as possible. While none of these are altogether preventable, you can minimize your chances of contracting them by limiting your exposure to damp socks and other clothing.
