How to control food portion size

If you want to lose weight or eat healthy one of the first things you need to do is reduce the size of the portions you eat. It can be the hardest part of being on a diet but without getting down to it you will not be able to achieve your target. Here are some ways you can control your portion size.

Eat on smaller plates

Your mind is tricked into believing that your plate is full and when you finish eating your mind is satisfied that you have had your full.

Have soup or salad before your main meal

A healthy soup or a salad before the meal will fill you up and require you to consume less of the main meal which is richer in calories.

Eat slowly

Take time to chew your food as it will make your stomach feel fuller with lesser food rather than wolfing down the food in a hurry.

Have dinner by the plate

Avoid serving family style meals and serve adequate portions on the plate, you will be less tempted to get up from the table to get a second helping.

Identify what a portion is for each kind of food and serve accordingly.
